February is definitely the month of love and if you’ve been on social media in the past few weeks, it seems you can’t escape the special date of February the 14th. Valentine’s Day definitely puts the emphasis on all things love and romance – mostly in relation to someone significant in your life. While we think everyday is an opportunity to show someone how much you love them, it can be all too easy to get caught up in sugary heart candy and boxes of chocolate. But isn’t it time we showed the most special person in our lives a little love?
Self-love is a concept that’s thrown around a lot these days but it’s much more important than just running a bath and putting on a face mask. This Valentine’s Day (and every day from now on), we want you to truly love and care for yourself. Harness the power within yourself and give as much love to you as you would to someone special in your life. After all, how can we receive love if we don’t first love ourselves?
To practice self-love does not mean you are selfish or egotistical. The art of self-love means to be truly in tune with what you need and who you are. To accept yourself for you and everything that comes along with who you are. Being able to listen to what your body and mind need at any given time. Practicing self-love is truly the way to lead a positive and uplifting life.
While self-love is something that takes work, patience and time, there are a few things you can do to start this journey off right. Taking care of yourself is one of the best ways to show yourself how important you are and how respected you are. Maybe this is the time to start working out, nourishing your body and drinking more water. These simple practices are a great way to thank your body for working as hard as it does. Exercise also does wonders for the mindset and helps you lead a more positive life overall!
Practicing mindfulness is another way to make sure you are being present in each and every moment and truly experiencing your life for how it is. Take the time notice what is around you instead of letting everything pass you by. Remember to be grateful for what you have and for those in your life who you love. Maybe start a journal to get all of your feelings out or write down daily affirmations. The written word is powerful and even just writing down a few things you love about yourself on a daily basis can completely shift your mindset.
Take the time to do what you enjoy and spend time with those who uplift you. We feed off the energy of those around us and that’s why it’s important to surround yourself with positive and inspiring people. Endeavour to learn something new every day or even take up a new hobby. Knowledge is power and doing what you can to better yourself is an amazing way to practice self-love.
Consider this Valentine’s Day the day you start to show yourself the love and care you deserve. Self-love is empowering, motivating and inspirational. Make your relationship with yourself your number one priority and let your heart be happy.
